Mission Update -- 10/14/09

Oops! I was on vacation last week and didn't post last week's update. Here it is -- out of order now!!

Hi Family,

I hope you're having a great cruise! And a great time recovering from surgery...

Well, we got transfer calls. I'm staying here, but poor Elder Denter is being transferred to Chicago to be a Chicago ZL. He's pretty bummed to leave. We've got some good stuff going on! He'll be able to come back for a baptism at least though.

So here's what's been happening:
Wednesday was really fun. We had Zone activity in the Stake Center. We played football in the gym, which was great. The English Sisters brought enchiladas for the whole Zone, which were really good, but pretty spicy. After Zone Activity, we went to dinner at the Coopers. That was pretty good. Brother Cooper is in the Bishopric, and is a New Yorker. After dinner there, we went to Tania's home for a lesson, which went well. She's really been feeling the Spirit lately, and is progressing. Before coming in for the night, we split for exchanges. I went to be with Elder Baum in Naper 6.

Thursday was good. Elder Baum and I did some finding, and eventually foung a new investigator tracting. We did some stop bys too, which were unsuccessful. We eventually went to Pizza Hut, and exchanged back. After that, Elder Denter and I went to Nancy's home to teach Adam. He's doing well. We also went to visit David and teach him. We did a few stop bys after that, then went home for the night.

Friday was alright. We taught Amanda in the morning. She's doing alright. After that, we went to lunch at a Thai restaurant, which was pretty good. After eating lunch, we visited Sister Apodaca, who is doing pretty much the same as always. We later taught Jose and his wife. Jose is so awesome. He is really progressing well. His wife just got a new medication to calm her down, so hopefully we'll see them at church soon. We then went to the Glavianos' home for a dinner and a lesson with the less active daughter. It went well.

Saturday was pretty great. We had a good MCM in the morning. After that, we hurried over to the Stake Center to meet Brother Giese. He took us to the Chicago Temple, which was great! It was pretty funny... There was a busload of missionaries from a Wisconsin mission. It was pretty neat talking to them. We went through the noon session, which was great. Elder Thornhill and Elder Hunt were in the session too! That's pretty funny, because last temple transfer Elder Thornhill happened to be there when I was too. It was great being there. After the session, we went to the book store. After going there, we went to Edwardo's in Skokie! We got 2 pizzas, which were good. I gave Clint Giese the extra $10 gift certificate afterwards. After that, we came back to go to a ward party. The ward party went well. Elitania and her family, as well as most of Nancy's family came to it. Nancy is doing great. She asked for a second calling, and got set apart as part of the activities committe. She really enjoyed working on this party.

Sunday was pretty good. We had the usual early morning meetings, then a great time at church. We've really had some exciting things go on. We got that referral for the Popes, which is turning out to be GREAT. Part member family where the nonmember husband just got really interested in the church, and wants his family to be active. They were there on Sunday, and are doing great. We've got our first appointment with them tonight. We also had Sister Houser's sister come, whose moved in with them, and we're going to start teaching too. Nancy has been working on her, and is getting her ready for baptism! So church was good. After church was good too. We went over to the Petersons to break our fast. They have us over every fast sunday, and we love it. After that, we went to teach the Gamboas. We then had a fall through, so we went to Nancy's and ended up teaching Adam. We also visited Tania when we were over there. After all that, we tried some finding I think, but it didn't work well.

Monday was good. We had our District Meeting, which was Elder Brown's last one ever. We then went and got some lunch. After that, we went to teach Amanda again. After that, we went tracting and found a few new investigators. We found Eugene and Lisa, who were actually just walking down the street. We started teaching them, and they asked us if we were the guys that talked about "William Smith." We gladly told them it was Joseph Smith, and they said alright, come on over and bring us a Book of Mormon. We also found a hispanic man that is pretty concerned with the state of the world. After all that, we went over to the Harris family home for some dinner. They live over in Naperville, so that's a long drive. We had a great dinner over there though. They cooked steak, which was yummy. They're a really great family, and do a lot for the Lord, which is graet. After that, we went to teach the Zacas with Sister Brown. Kayla is doing so well. They came to church again on Sunday, so things are looking great for the baptism. We're going to have it on November 7th now. We're changing the date because they want some relatives to come to it. That was the end to a good day.

Tuesday was transfer call day. Pretty crazy. We went to the Hesed House, which was pretty good. After that, we went to teach Tania, who is doing alright. After that, we went to visit Mike C. He just had surgery the day before, and is recovering well. We found a new investigator who was just sitting outside his apartment complex. It was pretty neat. She showed us how her dog can sing, then agreed to take the lessons. After that, we went to visit a less active senior, Doris Ksander. She's really nice, and has some great home teachers. You can always tell who really does their home teaching, because the people they teach will always bring them up. After that, we ate a quick dinner, then left for more appointments. We taught the Gaffneys who are some fairly recent converts. After that, we went to pick up a young man to take teaching with us. We took Christian to teach the Matucks, who are doing really well. He did a great job. We got the transfer calls in the evening too, which were pretty intense. Elder Denter was pretty upset.

Today will be good. We'll go around so Elder Denter can say bye to people. We'll then go to dinner at and teach the Popes.

Well, I love you all so much. Thanks for taking care of me. I appreciate your prayers, and everything else you do. Keep praying for missionary opportunities. I don't think it's happenchance that you have Cornwall again, Mom & Dad... You've got to share the Gospel with him! Tell him I say hi, then tell him about the Restoration... Or whatever the Spirit directs you to say! [Cornwall was our waiter on the cruise. We've had him as our waiter on 3 different cruises now, so that's what Brad is referring to. Ed did talk to him about Brad being on a mission now and they had a good discussion about it.]

You all have a great week.

Love,

Elder Bradley E McMullin
