Mission Update -- 1/27/10

Believe it or not, Brad will be at the 18 month mark on Saturday!! It finally feels like we're getting near the end. I think the last 6 months will go by fast. All is still well in the Naperville 4th. Here's his email for the week:

Hello Family,

I hope everything is going well for you. Thank you for your emails. I hope everything is going well for you. It's been a good week here for Elder Boyer and me.

Last Wednesday was a good day. We got some things done and had a relaxing day. We then went to the Coopers home for the second Wednesday in a row for dinner. They're a nice family, and are doing great missionary work. Sister Cooper has given a Book of Mormon to the manager of an Olympic snowboarder named Vito.

Thursday was an alright day. We had some appointment fall through, but it turned out well. We had the Hesed House and some planning. We also taught a young man, Christian Stratford how to teach the Preach My Gospel lessons. He had already gone through them with his dad. It was pretty awesome to see a young man being prepared so well for a mission. We took him with us and did some stop bys. We weren't able to teach a lesson to our stop bys, so we went to visit Mike and had Christian practice teaching there. We had dinner with the Houghtons in the evening, which was good. They've been doing wonderful missionary work. They've given 2 referrals to missionaries, and are working with some other of their friends to help them come unto Christ. The referrals are for the area just south of us, bummber, but we're excited to see how they progress. Other than the items mentioned, we went to homes of people that weren't there. It was still a good day though.

Friday was great! We had the morning to prepare some of Zone Conference. We also had some good time to find throughout the day! We found 3 new investigators, which is awesome for a single day. We took Christian out with us tracting, and were led to Bobby's home. Bobby invited us in, and we taught him about the Restoration. He has become a good investigator for us. We went to dinner at the Osorios' home. They're a great family that just moved over from the Spanish Ward. They're very fun and funny, and cooked some great Mexican food. They are great missionaries too. Elder Denter and I were tracting their street quite a while ago, and they gave a referral that became a new investigator. They're working on helping others come unto Christ, and have given out copies of the Book of Mormon to several of their neighbors. After dinner, we stopped by a former investigators home, and were able to find two new investigators there. Santayjit and Sam (he told us his full name is just too hard to say) are two Hindis, and expressed interest in learning more about the Restored Gospel.

Saturday was a good day. We had MCM in the morning, which went well. We later taught Mike how to teach some more out of Preach My Gospel. We took him with us to Bobby's house to teach. Bobby loved the message, and wants to join the Church. He also wants to go out and help us teach after he's a member. He's heading in the right direction, and we're excited to help him progress. We also went to visit Nancy and her family. We shared a message there, which went well. We later went to dinner at the Gallaher's home, which was great. They've got an awesome family and do some good missionary work. They helped fellowship the Zacas, and Brother Gallaher spoke at Kayla's baptism. After that, we went to teach Amanda with Bishop Nair. That went well. Our Bishop is awesome, and does a great job at helping members move forward. He also does a great job at inspiring members to do missionary work, which we really appreciate.

Sunday went well. We had PEC in the morning which was productive. We then left to do stop bys and try to get people to church. We weren't able to get anyone new, but it was ok. Church went very well. We were able to get an appointment with Jeremy, which was great. We heard some good talks and had some great lessons. Mark Pope gave the missionary moment in Elders Quorum, and it was awesome. He got offered some wine by some friends, and not only turned them down, but bore his testimony of the Restoration and invited them to take the missionary lessons! He's going to keep working with them, so that's pretty exciting. He's starting to travel a lot now for work, so he'll have plenty of opportunities for missionary work with that. We had time to study as we ate lunch after Church. We had an appointment with the Lees also. They are doing great missionary work. They gave us one referral for a part member family, and are inviting two neighbor families over for dinner so they can get to know them better before doing more missionary work there. We're pretty excited to see how all of their efforts turn out. We then went by to the Neuders, who gave us some dinner. They gave out 6 church DVDs at Christmas time, and followed up with them. They're trying to get us a new investigator, and are doing very well at sharing the Gospel. We then went by to the Coopers to return a dish. They have been talking to friends about Haiti relief and the Church. Awesome. We then went to teach Bobby again with Mike. Bobby is doing well, and is gaining a testimony. He tells us that he feels so much better when we're around than he normally does. We taught him about the Spirit, and how it bears witness of the truth.

Monday was a long day. We had several appointments cancel, so we tracted for several hours. We didn't get a new investigator from our tracting in the snow, but we did get to bear our testimonies quite a few times. We also did a lot of stop bys. We did get an appointment with one former investigator, Hell-Bongo Mala. He's from Chad, and is here working on cell phone software. He's about to leave for Seattle on a business trip, but we'll be able to teach him when he gets back. We also stopped by a lot of other people, but that was the most exciting one. Our dinner appointment got ill, so we weren't able to go over there. We taught Nikita and Chiquita in the evening. We read some scriptures with them, which went well.

Tuesday was a good day. We had an early appointment with the Stultz family right after our morning schedule. Jeremy is going to fast on fast Sunday about what he needs to do next. He's a good man, and we really hope to see his family on the path to the temple. We saw Mike for our weekly scripture reading appointment. That went well. He's cooking through the Book of Mormon. We took him with us to visit Sister Apodaca. We had baked her cookies when we were home for lunch between our appointments with Jeremy and Mike. The lesson went well, and we had a nice discussion with Sister Apodacas son who has some interesting doctrinal beliefs. We later got to visit Krista, who is back from out of town. They went to Wisconsin one week, then Washington DC the next week. They had fun trips. We went to visit Amy, who is doing well. We're going to teach her family again. We then did stop bys until dinner. We went to dinner at the Matucks and taught about Patriarchal blessings. They're preparing to get theirs, and are excited for them. I'm happy to see them closing in on this next step on their journey to the temple! It's also very rewarding to see their missionary zeal. They are one of the most productive families in the Ward, and I'm grateful for the opportunity I have to associate with them.

Today should be a good day. It's been nice sitting here emailing mom. I do like this new email system the mission has. We don't have too much planned for today besides dinner with Nancy and a follow up appointment with the Robbins to help them set goals for their missionary work.

Thanks for all you do for me! I love you, and am glad to hear you're doing well. It'll be nice to spend time with you in a few months, but I'm happy to be out here serving the Lord. It is so wonderful to see lives changed so dramatically by the Restored Gospel. I know the Savior lives, and has provided the way for peace in this life and Eternal Life in the next. I love learning more of His Gospel and applying it to my life. It is such a blessing to share my testimony with others and help them come unto Christ. Keep growing your testimonies and sharing them every day!

Love,

Elder Bradley E McMullin
